Along with the Cannes Film Festival, the best Marathi movies have been being sent to the Goa International Film Festival by the Department of Cultural Affairs for the last few years. Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh said that an initiative would be taken to screen Marathi cinema at the Berlin, Venice, Toronto, Sundance, and New York Film Festivals to be held from September to November 2021.

The 157th meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Film, Theater and Cultural Development Corporation Limited was held at the Ministry today under the chairmanship of Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh. The meeting was attended by Manisha Verma, Managing Director of the Corporation, Saurabh Vijay, Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, Aanchal Goyal, Co-Managing Director of the Corporation, Vilas Thorat, Deputy Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, Bibhishan Chavre, Director of Cultural Affairs and other officials of the Corporation.

Mr. Deshmukh said that in order to make Marathi films available to the wider global market and also to make Marathi cinema famous internationally, the best Marathi movies will be included in various international film festivals in the near future. It was not possible to actually participate in this year’s Cannes Film Festival against the backdrop of Kovid. However, in the forthcoming 52nd International Film Festival to be held in Goa in November 2021, the best 10 Marathi films will be sent under the Film Bazaar of the National Film Development Corporation. Apart from this, various activities should be organized by the corporation and the National Film Development Corporation.
